Selva Bananito

Selva Bananito

Selva Bananito is a true ecolodge dedicated to habitat preservation.  The accommodations are generally nice and open but without high-end finishes, swimming pools, or luxurious furnishings. The food is very good and much of it is grown locally.  That's a lucky thing for guests since the lodge is remote and no other meal option would be possible. Both electricity and hot water are available but thoughtfully limited. Wireless internet is only possible in the dining area.

The habitat and trails around the lodge are generally productive for wildlife. At least 5 different Costa Rica cats have been monitored on the property, and the site has a large bird list. Among the specialties we encountered were Costa Rican Pygmy Owl, Brown-capped Tyrannulet, Purple-throated Fruitcrow, and Plain Tanager. Occasionally, the rare Great Jacamar, and Black-crowned Antpitta are observed.

Selva Bananito us one of the few ecolodges in the southeastern Carribean lowlands, and one of only a handful that has experience handing small groups.
